rachel & al wedding-grand rapids wedding photographer

It’s couples like Rachel and Al that remind why I love photography.  They radiate with joy and love for each other, for their families and friends.  Their wedding was sincere but also a lot of fun!  I still have the image of Rachel’s grandpa getting his groove on in my head!  And any wedding party that doesn’t complain about how cold it is outside is pretty amazing in my book.

So thank you Rachel and Al (and your families) for inviting me to capture this day…I walked away with my heart blessed by your story!  So excited for you to start your marriage in the Pacific Northwest…I LOVE Seattle!

Thanks to Amy Boeve for second shooting with me and capturing some delightful moments!

kelly & mike-grand rapids wedding photographer

As if in celebration of Kelly and Mike’s wedding day the fall colors reached their brilliant peak, giving this day a warm and beautiful background. Kelly and Mike are as sweet as you can get! It’s refreshing to be a part of a wedding celebration that is truly about the relationship. And thanks to Dee from Elements of Elegance for creating such beautiful and classic details.

sue & jim-just because Grand Rapids portrait photographer

thinking about my time with sue and jim affirms to me why i find such joy when my camera is in hand. a christmas gift from their family, this portrait session perfectly captured their timeless love. i adore how smitten these two are still with each other! inspiring.

some of the best gifts given to me were “just because”. no special occasion or designated holiday. so I love doing these just because portrait sessions! today is always the perfect day to capture what is beautiful and true in our lives.

Amber & Dan-Grand Rapids wedding photographer

Amber and Dan had a beautiful wedding at Frederick Mejer Gardens.  It was a joy to capture their relationship and the loving family and friends that had gathered to celebrate.  Here are a few favorites from their day (I just adore Amber’s dress…one of my favorites!)

laura & joe-grand rapids wedding photographer

Despite the unusual chilly weather, this wedding was warm and cozy with all the love for Joe and Laura! I hadn’t met Joe and Laura prior to this day but within moments I felt like I was a part of the family. It didn’t hurt that they’re from Chicago and huge Bears fan!

It was a joy to capture their day…from the comedic stand-up delivered by the Catholic priest, the emotional and entertaining toasts (the best man offered his own prayer of grace in the form of Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy”), the Soul Train line and the Chicago hot dogs for a midnight snack. It was a wedding I won’t soon forget!

Joe and Laura, you make an amazing couple and it was easy to see why your family and friends celebrated you so well on your wedding!  I wish you many blessings on your life ahead!

A big thanks Brittany and her team from Stella Event Design for coordinating such a beautiful event.

sarah & jeremy-grand rapids wedding photographer

It was a delight capturing Sarah and Jeremy’s wedding day. I’m not sure I met a couple who naturally had smiles plastered on their face all day (or had such amazing dance moves)! A surprising connection I had with the bride is that we’re both graduates from Taylor University, so I knew I had to shoot her wedding!  Enjoy a few favorites from their day…

Thanks to Kim Elkins for second shooting for me!

nicole & kelly-grand rapids wedding photographer

From the moment I met Nicole and Kelly and heard their whirl-wind love story I just knew their wedding day was going to be nothing short of amazing! Their relationship started with a chance encounter at a local Grand Rapids pub and a cab ride. Once these two became smitten with each other they headed to Minnesota where Nicole was working on med school. And now they call Indianapolis home where she’s completing her residency. But they wanted to celebrate their love here, in Grand Rapids, where it all started.

It was about as perfect of a day as you can get for February in Michigian. Crisp air but brilliant blue skies. Hundreds of their loved ones came to celebrate this amazing couple! It’s easy to do because their love is so effortless and generous…Nicole and Kelly draw you into the fold of their family and friends and you feel like you’ve know them forever.

So let’s get to some pics…her dress was crazy amazing! Feminine but modern…and yes it had pockets! And the shoes were perfection.

Their crazy-amazing wedding party sporting the hats and scarves that Kelly and Nicole gave them…a lil’ cold doesn’t scare this group!

Before the reception the group decided to hit the ice and put on some wedding ice capades .

All day long I kept saying how blessed I felt to do what I love, photography, but to also get to meet such amazing people because of it…

More to come from this beautiful wedding, including more details and the 411 on all the vendors who made this day…well amazing!

love to japan

as a photographer i know the emotional impact of pictures.  so today when a friend showed me before and after images of japan the unthinkable tragedy became more tangible.

the pain, the devastation…it can seem so consuming that we don’t know how to step in.  so we don’t do anything.  when i had to face my own personal loss it wasn’t the biggest gestures of love that meant the most, it was when someone simply chose to be aware of my story and showed up.

so one thing i can do as a photographer is to use the blessing of this job to give back to the people of japan.  i will donate a portion of my fees from any wedding that i book from now through May 1st.  so while i capture your celebration of love, you will have given some love to japan.

missy & don-grand rapids wedding photographer

I think couples who get married in the middle of a Michigan winter are serious about their love. For Missy and Don this day wasn’t about the flowers or fancy dresses, but about celebrating with their family and friends the blessing of their relationship.

I confess that I cry at every wedding, regardless if I know the couple personally…so you can imagine how I had to hold back the tears at this wedding. Missy was stunning and Don was busting with joy!

Such a funny moment…Don went in for the kiss before Pastor Steve gave his blessing!

Don and Missy, it was such an honor to capture your day, but even more to call you friends.  I pray that God will use your marriage to bring you deeper joy and love into your lives.

missy & don engagement session-grand rapids wedding photographer

it was forth of july weekend the first time i heard missy utter don’s name. the nervous and giddy tone of her voice gave it all away…there was something special about this one. the following summer don took her on boat ride where he asked her to be his one. and this saturday they will ask God to join their hearts into one. such an honor to capture my dear friends wedding celebration!
